basketball tonight. >> what's more, the franchise is now getting a new leader with owner donald sterling banned from the league for life over those racist audio recordings that leaked last weekend, the nba trying to force the 80-year-old billionaire to sell the team. the league announcing it's appointing a new chief executive officer to oversee the clippers' day-to-day operations a move the owner's wife and the clippers support. >> check off last night's "saturday night live" show. >> i have skied to sell the lossagelers clippers for the bargain price of $1 billion. i know that sounds like a lot of money, i'm making a lot of money but remember the nba already fined me $2.5 million so i'll only be clearing $998 million. i hope to use every penny to

everything that's bad. he had a little fun with that but he had some zingers, too. we were watching, we were cringing a lot. on our air on the coverage, ben stein was none too happy with joel mchale's assessment with c chris christie. i thought he got mean from actor to actor, the robert de niro line was a gut puncher when he said his agent picks up the phone and says he'll do it because robert de niro is one of the legendary actors but he was an equal opportunity offender. >> one of the people that took a real hit was new jersey governor chris christie in the audience, clearly losing weight but the scandal, the questions surrounding bridgegate and closing the bridges kept getting nailed not only by the president but also by the comedian joel as well, and they hit him on his weight. which didn't really seem fair to me. >> don't you think he knew he

consistently moving around this hotbed of slaviansk and reports of a helicopter in the sky near the city as well that comes after 24 hours of real violence here, clashes in the outskirts of slaviansk, the ukrainian military lost two of their paratroopers, 12 injured and we met many civilians in local hospital who said they had been shot in the legs, below the waist during the ex-change. the troops came under fire, the troops tried to went out and when blocked started shooting. clearly a lot of hostility from local residents towards the ukrainian soldiers. they have almost an impossible job facing quite well trained pro-russian militants who have good equipment, we saw with the two helicopters down in the past 48 hours and in kramatorsk yesterday the ukrainian military came in and the interior

minister claimed they held buildings but the russian militants still outside the city and a lot of consternation from locals that the army had opened fire in such a way. >> nick, we know john kerry and sergey lavrov spoke on the phone. do with he know moscow's reaction to this escalating violence this weekend? >> reporter: well, yes, i mean they say this is a crime. they say they're deeply concerned and they reiterate the noise we've been hearing for months now that russia reseshz the right to intervene here in they believe people they referring to their come patriots, russian language speakers around the threat. they've been receiving thousands of calls for intervention and assistance, consider what's happening to be a criminal act. we haven't seen at this point any large scale mobilization to bring those russian troops just across the border in our direction here. that's a possibility and we are hearing from the ukrainian prime

think about this for the families, 58 days since malaysia airlines flight 370 disappeared and so far officials have not found one single piece of debris from the boeing 777. this is baffling. >> it's unbelievable but here's what we know. the u.s. will extend the deployment of the high-tech underwater robot, bluefin 21 until at least the end of the month. so far 18 deep sea missions have turned up as christi said nothing. >> three bangladeshi naval ships

single piece of debris from the plane in spite of the best efforts of 26 countries. the visual search is over. they're focusing on the underwater search. the bluefin contract is costing alone that little piece of equipment $40,000 a day and now they're going to be talking about other equipment they can bring in, the cost of that, who they're going to hire. they need the help of private contractors from a lot of different countries. there are companies in malaysia interested in doing some of the work, countries from all over the world so that's what this meeting will be about and then we're expecting a pretty big press conference afterwards, where we will get an update how this next phase will proceed. >> we have to acknowledge, will, this report by "the daily mail" that's fueling theories terrorism may have been involved. i say that because according to the report, 11 terrorists with ties to al qaeda were arrested last week near kuala lumpur. this was coming from "the daily mail" but what are officials

saying? >> reporter: well "the daily mail" report connected these arrests of these 11 suspected militants to mh-370, something that the malaysia police are flat out are denying to cnn and every other news agency that contacted them. this has not been uncommon in the past weeks one news outlet will come up with a big exclusive with a link to mh-370, when we check out the information and try to confirm it through our own independent sources it turns out in not to be legit. any connection of the missing splaen being strongly denied. malaysia is a strong partner with the united states and counterterrorism. it's one of the big topics president owe ba in discussed here in kuala lumpur when he was here last week. it's not uncommon for u.s. intelligence officials to work with malaysian intelligence officials to try to prevent terrorist attacks here and other countries around the world. that's what we're seeing in this investigation. >> absolutely, just the timing of 11 terrorist arrests people would question if there's a

this process in the nba resem e resembles nothing like due process. silver, the nba commissioner is essentially the emperor, he has dictated the direction this is going and the bylaws allow for him to do a lot of things. he has plenty authority to do a lot of things before these owners convene a vote. the only thing they're convening to vote on is whether to oust sterling from the league. the fine and the lifetime ban are essentially not reviewable. i think i'm in the minority when i say this, look for the owners to potentially change their mind over the next couple days. they're all fiercely independent thinkers, they're titans of their respective industries. these people have their own opinions and they may be concerned as many have been about being punished strictly for your thoughts however detestable they are. >> let me put this out there, joey. shelly sterling, donald's wife

and team's co-owner supports this move to bring in a new ceo and you wonder if donald sterling can fight it but i mean that's some pretty big influence for this. >> it's all about economics. here's why i think the owners will be in unison it comes down to money. who is going to support the team in the absence of donald sterling be removed? you will not have players who will play for you, sponsors who support the team and certainly not have fans who go there and give the team what they need to get over the hump as they did last night, congratulations l.a. clippers for moving forward and so that's why you see this broad base of support, christi. i think the reality is that while the nba commissioner does have this authority, he needs the authority and so could there be a lawsuit here? yes, he could sue. i think at the end of the day he loses, we move forward, the nba
